Lyle J. DeLange
1930 - 2022

Lyle J. DeLange died on December 30, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on May 5, 1930, in Orem, Utah, to Orrel Lyle and Arvilla Denison DeLange. He had five siblings: Gordon H. DeLange, twin sister, Lyla D. DeLange; Leland LeRay DeLange, Cynthia Joyce DeLange, and he is survived by brother, Clark DeLange, of Orem, Utah.

In high school, Lyle participated in drama, music and theater with his twin sister, Lyla. He was the senior class president while Lyla was the vice president. Lyle worked with his dad on the farm and Orem Appliance. He learned the trade as a plumber and worked at Geneva Steel for a time. Lyle married Joan Pyne on November 23, 1949. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 9, 1951. They lived in Joan's family's basement apartment while waiting for their house to be built. In 1960, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked as a plumber and pipefitter until his retirement. They lived in their home on Falcon Lane, until they served as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1996-1998) in the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission. They later bought another home in Las Vegas and lived there where Joan passed away, and where Lyle resided until his death.

He and Joan are survived by their three children: Carolyn DeLange Horstman (John); John Denison DeLange (Marilyn Morley); and Laurie DeLange Rial (Richard). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. One of their most cherished memories is of M&M malts that he whipped up for family, friends, and missionaries. It is a legacy which is continued by his children and grandchildren still today!

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully in many callings and assignments all of his life. Lyle served as counselor in the bishopric, and later, bishop in the 19th Ward of the Las Vegas Stake. He also served on the high council in his stake, as well as in the stake presidency. Lyle served with his wife as ordinance workers in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple. After Joan passed away, Lyle served as a service missionary with Las Vegas Transient Services. Through years of service, Lyle and Joan made many friends with whom they could travel and enjoy wonderful adventures.

Lyle will always be remembered by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as a fun-loving dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He loved to tell jokes and was always available to make people laugh. Even a few of his nurses in the hospital prior to his death loved his stories and sense of humor.

He will always be remembered as a noble, and great man, who loved his family and set a wonderful example for them and the people who were his friends and acquaintances.

Lyle's funeral services and visitation will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
