Sandra Arlene Trotter was born August 24, 1948 in Lynwood, California, daughter of Eldon Lloyd Shaw Sr. and Genevieve Lucille (Lockhart) Shaw. She was raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles.
While working in a donut shop, Sandy met and fell in love with, Steven Ray Trotter, who was serving in the military. The couple was married on May 30, 1970 in Downey, California. Steve had to go AWOL to get married because they wouldn't let him off duty, but his fellow military boys covered for him. Soon they were blessed with their son, Jason and shortly after, daughter, Crystal.
In 1973, the family of four moved from Downey, California to Attica, Kansas, where Steve was raised. Even though moving from California to Kansas was quite the culture shock, Sandy was excited to be a farm wife. Steve liked to tease her and tell the story about the time he came home and she and the two kids were in the root cellar because she thought she saw a tornado. Steve said there was one puffy white cloud in a very blue sky! The novelty of being a farm wife wore off quickly. While on the farm, they welcomed two more children, Stacy and J. Steven.
Sandy stayed home as a homemaker while the kids were young and served as a scout leader for Jason and his friends. She started work as a librarian in the 80's at Attica Public Library. In 1986 she was hired by the Anthony Public Library and served as director there until her retirement in 2010. Sandy designed and landscaped the new library that was built in Anthony. She also designed and landscaped the garden and outdoor space at Anthony Community Care Center. She really took pride in gardening with all plants and flowers.
Sandy enjoyed art and painting and was a member of the Attica Art Guild. She painted many oil and acrylic paintings for family and friends which will be cherished for years to come. She was very passionate and dedicated to genealogy and participated in the Harper County Genealogical Society. She spent many hours performing her own research and helped other people with theirs.
Sandy's greatest joys were her love of Jesus Christ and her church, her beloved family, and her 2 dogs, Sugar and CoCo. She was very strong in her faith with her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She designed and created 400 statues for a regional women's conference, which took a year to complete. She loved spending time with her grandkids and attended many of their activities and school functions.
On January 5, 2023, Sandy passed away at her home in Katy, Texas as the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve on December 4, 2016; her parents; and her brother, Eldon Shaw Jr.
Sandy will be deeply missed by her children: Jason Trotter and wife Evelyn, Crystal Anthony and husband Shane, Stacy Kristek and husband Jeremiah, J. Steven Trotter, and Trenton Lee and wife Annette; her sister, Shirley Bonham and husband Donnie; 12 grandchildren; her church family; other relatives and many friends.
