Preston Houchin was born on July 24, 1813, in Warren, Kentucky, his father, William, was 36 and his mother, Lavisa, was 24. He married Elizabeth Betsy Bonine and they had 12 children together. He then married Martha Jane O'Neil and they had five children together. He died on December 8, 1893, in Livingston, Illinois, having lived a long life of 80 years.
