Charles P. Abulencia, Sr., 83, of Cicero, NY, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, January 2, 2023. Charlie was born in Syracuse to the late Genaro Pal and Mary Elizabeth (Hamilton) Abulencia. He graduated in 1957 from North Syracuse High School where he was a member of the track team. A long-time member of St. Thomas Episcopal church, he was an acolyte and continued his Episcopal Church membership at St. Matthew's, Liverpool. On January 14, 1961, he married the love of his life, Ruth Stevens. Charlie retired in 2001 from the P&C Warehouse, where he held many positions throughout his 40 years with the company. He also served the Cicero Volunteer Fire Department with honor, pride, and distinction for 59 years, holding several roles, including Fire Chief. Charlie enjoyed hunting, camping, playing in the fire department softball league, golfing in the Greenview C.C. golf league, and never missed his morning spin class at the gym. At car shows, he displayed his classic 1986 Chevy Silverado. He loved being a dad and was a loving 'Papa' to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending weekends with them at his family's cottage on Lake Ontario. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, his siblings, Annella Blanchette and Donald Abulencia, and a granddaughter, Kelly. Surviving are his children, Kim (Brian) Shannon, Janet (Mark) Bauer, Charles P. "Chuck" Abulencia, Jr. and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Abulencia; grandchildren, Michael, Zachary (Kayla), Christopher (Anna), Jordyn (Justin), Julia, Sarah (Lawrence) and Jade (Johnny); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, Charlie, Carter, Collyns, Blake and Payton; brothers, Michael (Penny) and John "Jack" (Eleanor) Abulencia and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 4 to 7 pm at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main St., North Syracuse. Funeral services will be Friday, January 6, 2023, at 3 pm St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 900 Vine Street, Liverpool. Graveside services are Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 9 am in North Syracuse Cemetery, 555 South Bay Road, North Syracuse. Donations may be made to the Cicero Volunteer Fire Department, Cicero, NY 13039.
