Harvey Gene Moore, 92, of Slaton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022. Funeral services were Thursday (Dec. 29) at First United Methodist Church in Slaton. Arrangements were under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Gene was born Sept. 19, 1930 in Cuthand to Harvey Lester and Geneva Moore.
Gene was a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. army during the Korean War. He served with the Slaton and Post Volunteer Fire Departments.
During the 1970s, Gene was the Chamber of Commerce "Man of the Year." In Post, he also served with the Post rotary Club for many years where he was elected President. Any service organization in the towns where Mr. Moore lived such as Slaton, Brownfield, Post, Levelland or Rising Star, he would serve as many ways with as many organizations as possible.
When Mr. Moore retired from Atmos Energy in 1988, he and his second wife, Lorrye Lou, moved to rising Star where Gene was a hard working City Councilman and he was also the Trash Truck Driver.
While Mr. and Mrs. Moore did many activities for the citizens of Rising Star, they also spent their own money and re-decorated the inside and outside of the First United Methodist Church where the patrons of the church voted to change the name of the fellowship hall to the Gene and Lorrye Moore Fellowship Hall.
Whatever Gene Moore found that he could help with, he would do it. It could be as big as organizing the Christmas Parade in Post or as small as taking some of the elderly to their doctor's appointments in Abilene from Rising Star.
Mr. Moore was a good, good man.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Bobbie Ann Moore and Lorrye Lou Moore; two brothers, Robert Edward Moore and Harold Moore; his son, Clay Gene Moore; his granddaughter, Bobbye Nell Harris and son-in-law, Gary Lester.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Jacquelyn Lester of Waxahachie; his son, Tracy McAlister and his wife, Twana of Lubbock; his sisters, Louise Becker and her husband, Jr. of Slaton and
Maxine Cook of Brownwood; his brothers, Leon Moore and his wife, Jeanette of Slaton and Sam Moore of Wolfforth; grandchildren, Bailey Lester and his wife, Lacy and Tucker McAlister and his wife, Jenna and his great-grandchildren, Zane, Zachary and Zoye Harris and Sadie Lester.
