Robert C. "Bob" Agee, (known by his close family as "Chicks"), 84, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a nearly 14-year courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 30, 2022, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., at Morningside Lutheran Church, 700 South Martha Street, Sioux City. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Morningside Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery immediately following the service, with a luncheon at the church following burial.
Bob was born on February 18, 1938, to Paul and Dorothy (Sturgeon) Agee in Sioux City. Bob and his younger sister spent their early childhood with parents who were working to make sure that the U.S. and the Allies were victorious in World War II, with their father in the Navy serving in the Pacific theater, and with mom working outside the home.
Bob graduated from Central High School in 1956, and maintained friendships with many of his classmates from around the country.
Bob continued his education at Wayne State College, earning a bachelor's degree in secondary education (emphasis in history and social studies) in 1960. Bob started his career in education in the Everly, Iowa, schools from 1960 to 1962.
Bob married Leila Weekley at Riverside Lutheran Church on August 3, 1962. To that union were born three children. Bob and Leila marked their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Bob continued teaching in the Sergeant Bluff – Luton School District in the fall of 1962, beginning as a history and social studies teacher. Bob also earned a master's degree in educational psychology and guidance counseling in 1969, from the University of South Dakota, and briefly served as a guidance counselor for the Sergeant Bluff – Luton School District. Many in both Everly and Sergeant Bluff – Luton school districts had great appreciation for Bob as an educator. Bob also served as a coach in Everly and Sergeant Bluff – Luton, and later coached his children in several sports.
In 1970, Bob began work in student services at Western Iowa Tech Community College, a position in which he was able to help hundreds of students work toward achieving their goals and dreams toward a great career. Bob retired from WITCC in the mid-1990s, and later worked in the mail room at First Federal Bank in Sioux City.
In addition to work and family, Bob was involved in numerous service activities in the community. Bob was a long-time member of the Sioux City Noon Lions Club, in which he served as President several years ago, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow. Bob was proud to be a member of the Sioux City Noon Lions' Scholarship Committee for many years. Bob was also a long-time member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. Bob also served on boards of the local Teachers' Credit Union and the Salvation Army of Siouxland.
Bob was always a champion of the underdog, and could talk with anyone anywhere about anything. Bob was also proud of his family, and enjoyed the annual Sturgeon cousins' reunion each September.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Agee, by his sister, Eleanor "Sue" Friedrichsen, by two sisters who died in early childhood, by numerous in-laws, and by his beloved dog and best friend, Hooch.
Survivors include his wife, Leila Agee, three children; Jeff (Patricia) Agee-Aguayo of Green Bay, WI; Chris (Stacy) Agee of South Sioux City, NE; Molly (Steve) McCain of Sioux City, and six grandchildren: Joseph Agee-Aguayo of Mauston, WI; Cara McCain of Sioux Falls, SD; Andrew McCain of Sioux City; Allison Agee of South Sioux City; Kaitlyn Agee of Helena, MT; and Malia Agee of Helena.
