Daughter of Elijah (1811-1886) & Elizabeth Wilson (1831-1911) McClenahan. Moved to western Nebraska in 1886-7. Married to John Emery in February 1888.

Mrs. John Emery, 87, the oldest continuous resident of Scottsbluff, died Monday morning at a local hospital. Mrs. Emery lived in Scottsbluff since 1886. She was born in Keokuk, Ia., Dec 20, 1868, and married John Emery Feb. 29, 1888 at Gering. She was the former Amanda McClenahan.
She and her husband homesteaded in 1887 on the present site of Scottsbluff. The location was at the corner of Fifth avenue and Overland Drive and went out to the sugar factory location. Mr. Emery, who died Feb. 14, 1935, founded the Emery Hotel in 1900. The new Emery Hotel was built in 1935. He also owned considerable land in the Scottsbluff area. Mrs. Emery was a member of the Presbyterian church. Survivors include one daughter, Bessie; one son Jack (John), both of Scottsbluff, and six grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Read Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairview. ###
