A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 23, at First Baptist Church of Madison with burial to follow in Woodland Cemetery. Dr. Chuck McGathy and Dr. Larry Bennett will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 to 2 p.m.) at the church.
Janie was born in in Ellisboro, NC on July 10, 1925, to the late James Luther and Cassie Roberts Jackson. She and her family moved to Madison in 1928 and she graduated from Madison High School in 1943. She started to church at age 3 and was baptized on July 21, 1940. Janie was employed at Belk Cline in Madison from 1943-1950 and Madison Merchant's Association from 1959 to 1989, after which she worked for the Rockingham County Tax Department until her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter, Susie, of Gibsonville; two grandsons, James, of McLeansville and Austin, of Raleigh; two great-grandsons, James and Benjamin; many nephews and nieces that she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jamie Lee Vernon, in 2012; her sister, Peggy Kiser, and two brothers, Bernard Jackson and James Ronald Jackson.
Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel in Madison is serving the family.
