Helen Florence Giffin, 102, of Chillicothe, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022 at UnityPoint Health Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL. She was born in Dunlap, IL, October 25, 1920, to Edward and Mildred Scheeler. On September 30, 1939, she married Glenn R. Giffin, and for 72 years, they worked the land and served their communities.

She was active in Home Extension, 4-H, Radnor Grange, GYNCs (Greet Your Neighbor Club), PTA, Do-Si-Do square dancers, and she was the catcher on the Farm Bureau Rural Youth softball team, where she met Glenn.

While their boys were growing up, she returned to school to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, and becoming a LPN. She worked first at Proctor Hospital and later in the office of Dr. Emil Loeffler. She attended the Edelstein Community Church for over 65 years, serving as Sunday school teacher, Superintendent, and dedicated prayer warrior. When she sat, she had her crochet hook and yarn in hand as she created something special…. or she'd be playing beautiful music at their piano or organ.

Helen is survived by sons, Robert (Donna) Giffin of Pharr, TX and David (Ruth Ann) Giffin of Sparland, IL; sister, Barbara (David) Rawls of Fresno, CA. Helen was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Russell Scheeler; and sister-in-law, Caryl Scheeler.

Her graveside service will be at Princeville Township Cemetery.
