George was the sixth of eight children. After the War, he worked for the Central Railroad of New Jersey in Ashley, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, as a fireman. He married Arline E. Groff at Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, on August 12, 1920, and the couple raised four children: Arline, William, John, and Ethel.
