As a young man, William left his family in Missouri and moved west to California. There he met his wife, Maga Belle "Maggie" Tinsley, and married her 28 September 1884, in Fresh Water District, Colusa county, California. Shortly after marriage, they moved north, eventually settling in Walla Walla, Washington. Eventually William and Maggie had six children and twenty-four grandchildren.
William was a farmer in Walla Walla county.
He was preceded in death by Maggie and granddaughters Josepha Rosabelle Fitch, Doris Anita Fitch, and Geraldine Williebelle Huff.
