Francis Piles was probably born in Virginia in the Bath/Greenbrier/Monroe County area and named for another Francis Piles who lived in that area whose relationship is unknown. His birthdate is unknown. Francis Piles married Susan Wiseman, daughter of Samuel and Anna (Swope) Wiseman. They had the following children: Samuel, Franklin, Wilbur Dustin, Henry Wilson and Allen Thomas. His death date is somewhere between March 1846 and 1850. My Great Uncle Roscoe Pyles (Francis' grandson) always said Francis was buried near the head of Sharp's Creek and this is the only cemetery found there. In the 1840 census Francis Piles was indeed living next door to Patience (Piles) Russell (John Russell's widow) both of whom are also buried in this cemetery which is on the old Russell farm.
