Irene Smith, 72, Mitchellville Area Resident, Dies

Mrs. Charles Earl (Irene Glenn) Smith, 72, of near Mitchellville died at 11:34 a.m. Thursday at the Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson funeral home.

The Rev. Harold Jackson, minister of the Colfax Methodist church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Charles Earl; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Farmer of Newton and Mrs. Ray Wilson of Buffalo Lake, Minn.; and a niece, Mrs. Howard Tweed of Glencoe, Minn.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Christian church.

The daughter of Ira and Anna Fugard, she was born April 9, 1888, southeast of Newton. She was educated in Jasper county schools.

She was married to Charles Earl Smith November 22, 1917 [this should be November 21--DeeAnna]. They moved to Des Moines in 1919 and in 1945 moved to a farm near Mitchellville where they have resided since.
