Virgil was the son of Henry Ellsworth and Minnie Cecil (Luginhill) Smith. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1940. He was the Store Manager at Dillon's in Hutchinson and Manhattan, retiring after 43 years. He was a US Navy pilot serving in World War II. He married Baetty Marie Mae Archer on November 4, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his sons, Mike Smith and Steve Smith. Burial with full Military Honors was held in Fairlawn Burial Park.
