REMINGTON
Thompson Remington, G. A. R. veteran and a resident of Salem since 1889, died Friday afternoon at his home, 2433 Trade street, at the age of 89 years. Mr. Remington is a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge and of the Methodist church.

Besides his widow, Elizabeth, he is survived by two sons, J. A. Remington of Salem and W. O. of California.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Rigdon's mortuary under the auspices of Sedgwick post, G. A. R.

Also enumerated with the family are Electa Prindle, age 71, identified as aunt [of Thompson], b. New York, and Robert B. Taylor, age 24, identified as servant [to Thompson], occupation farm laborer, b. Ohio.

The caption reads: "This photograph was displayed as a part of the Diaries exhibit from April to May, 1995 in the Heritage Room at the Salem, Oregon Public Library. Thompson Remington was born in 1840, died at the age of 89 in 1929, and was buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Salem, Oregon. This picture was taken in 1862 in Corinth, Mississippi when he fought as a part of the 16th Regiment of the Iowa Volunteers in Tennessee and Mississippi in the American Civil War. He was the great grandfather of Joan Remington Beecroft. The tintype portrait is small and very dark and forms a unit with a gold frame. It was scanned in color to get the best enhancement of the portrait".
