Sallie was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia to Nancy K. and Dudley C. Smith Jr. She graduated from Maury High School and attended Radford University. She worked for both city (Norfolk) and state (Virginia) government agencies. She concluded her career in customer service at Lifetouch National School Studios, helping create memories for parents to last a lifetime.
She was a member of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution) and loved history, especially that of Virginia and Colonial Williamsburg. She was the great grand-daughter of one of the first lighthouse keepers at Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Corolla, NC. OBX. And followed the ancestry of her family through generations.
She loved the arts in all its forms, particularly music (Motown) and movies (the Naro) and was an avid reader. She loved living in the Ghent neighborhood with its eclectic restaurants, shops, and architecture. She loved all things ODU (Go Blue!) and UVA (Go Hoos!) and attended many sporting events of both schools. Her father was an alumnus of the University of Virginia. And she loved and cared for many animals, be they dogs or cats, throughout her life.
Left to cherish her life are numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends; whom she loved deeply. She will be laid to rest next to her parents in Forest Lawn Cemetery with a celebration of her life gathering to be held at a future time.
