Martha Ann Riley
Martha Ann Davis was born in Calhoun county, Mississippi October 1, 1859 and died in Weatherford Feb. 14, 1928.
She was married to John Henry Riley Jan. 14, 1880. To this union were born the following children and in the order given: J.E. Riley, Weatherford; Cristie Lee Riley died in infancy; E.L. Riley, Portland, Oregon; Thomas Terrill Riley died at age of 14; F.M. Riley, Portland, Oregon; J.H. Riley, Jr., Carnegie; Ernest E. Riley, Oklahoma City; B.C. Riley, Hawthorne, Calif.; Charles Eugene Riley died in infancy; Dollie Robertson, Denver, Colo.; Floy Stuteville, Homestead; J.T. Riley, Carnegie; and A.B. Riley who died at the age of 12.

Mrs. Riley joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church in youth and remained faithful to that faith so long as she lived. The family moved to Oklahoma from Mississippi in 1906. A few years later she was active in establishing a church near Alfalfa, and as a result, old Bethel church is standing today. She named the church.

The life of Mrs. Riley was characterized by her energy after rearing a large family, and above sixty years of age she did not cease to work.

It was her desire to grow the most beautiful flowers that could be had. Altho she grew a variety, the rose was her most cherished flower. The last conversation she had with one of her sons was about her plans for flowers during the coming summer.

She had great plans here, but when the end finally came, she passed from this life without a struggle into eternity where she will live in beauty and joy forever.

Interment was at Alfalfa cemetery Wednesday, February 15, 1928. Rev. Hancock of Weatherford spoke the words of Christian comfort and hope that brings peace to the bereaved hearts.
