Hollie Draper Russell was born October 18th,1947 and died on October 8th, 2022 at age 74.
Hollie was married to Ross Edward Russell for 44 years. Hollie and Ross had one daughter, Harmony Russell, married to Danial Harthan, who have two boys, Wyatt Ross Harthan and Grant Ron Harthan.

Hollie was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to her father, Hart Marco Draper and mother, Edith Vawdrey Draper. Hollie's brothers are David Draper, Paul Draper, Marc Draper, and infant Michael (Mick, or Mickie) Draper. Hollie is preceded in death by her parents and brothers David, Paul, and Michael.

Hollie is a fifth generation descendant of Mormon pioneer William Draper who traveled the Mormon trail to Salt Lake City, Utah and founded the town of Draper, Utah located just south of Salt Lake City. Utah.

Hollie attended Dixie College in Saint George, Utah and BYU University in Provo, Utah for more than two years where she studied South American history.

Hollie married Ross Russell on Christmas Eve of 1978 in Salt Lake City. Hollie really loved Christmas! Ross and Hollie met in Reno, Nevada through a mutual friend. When they returned to Salt Lake City, they continued dating and eventually married. Ross got a job offer from IBM and they moved to San Jose, California for two years. Ross got a transfer offer and they moved to Tucson, Arizona for four years. An opportunity came up for Ross to transfer to Boulder, Colorado in 1985 and he and Hollie were excited to return to a mountain setting. They moved to Longmont, Colorado and lived in the same home for 37 years.

Hollie worked as a secretary for many years in Salt Lake, San Jose, and Tucson. When they moved to Longmont, their daughter Harmony was born and Hollie became a stay at home mom. Hollie did home child care for a while. Ross came home one day and there were 9 children in their living room! Hollie was very kind and had a way with children, particularly pre-school age children.

As Harmony got older, Hollie started volunteering as a teacher's assistant and was eventually hired by the school district working at Rocky Mountain Elementary School. She was involved with Alpine Elementary pre-school and, together with her friend Veronica, ran the pre-school program. Hollie and Veronica must have done a very good job, as the pre-school had a long waiting list of children!

One time at a school fundraiser that Hollie and Ross attended, a bunch of children came running to Hollie saying "Mrs. Hollie" as they hugged Hollie's legs. This was so Hollie!

Hollie was part of the dive team that mapped the bottom of Fish Lake, UT. She told her cousin Susan that it was kind of scary, as some of the fish were bigger than she was!

Hollie loved crafting! She made ceramics (complete with an industrial kiln!), stain glass, stamping cards, and QUILTING! The quilt on Hollie's casket was made by volunteers at the hospital who likely didn't have any idea Hollie herself was quite a quilter. Undoubtedly, God knew Hollie was a quilter!

Hollie belonged to two quilt groups that met weekly. The TNT, or "Thursday Night Therapy" group is the one Ross was most familiar with and some of them are attending today. Some Thursday nights there would be 10 or more women in Hollie and Ross's living room talking about anything and everything. Too much for Ross, who would go up to his office and work on the computer or watch TV.

Hollie would travel with her quilting friends to quilt fairs and quilt shops everywhere. On one trip, they went to Santa Fe in New Mexico, Cheyenne in Wyoming, and British Columbia in Canada. Hollie enjoyed going to fabric stores shopping for fabric she would cut up and sew back together.

Hollie learned some Spanish for some of the pre-school children she worked with and while she was recovering from the stroke, some of the employees were speaking Spanish in her room. Hollie joined right in the conservation in Spanish surprising everyone!

Hollie was handicapped but she could be very engaging when she felt good cheering for the Broncos and Rockies and singing along with musical movies on the TV. Hollie liked "Saturday Night Fever", "Mamma Mia", "The Greatest Showman", and all the "Lord of the Rings" movies. Many times Ross would sing to Hollie and she would sing along with some of her favorite songs such as "Staying Alive", "Rockin Robin", "Ring of Fire", "Up, Up and Away", and all the old 40s songs done by Rod Stewart was her favorite CD that Ross played hundreds of times in the hospitals and at home.

Hollie and Ross went to a lot of rock concerts including Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, and even Alice Cooper. Ross took Hollie to see the Beach Boys 50th anniversary at Red Rocks and Hollie just loved it! This was the last concert they attended, as just 4 days later Hollie had the stroke in 2012 that left her paralyzed on one side and bedridden for the next 10 years.

From her loving husband:

Rest in peace Hollie, wrap yourself with my love, you are in God's hands now, and your suffering has ended! Hollie, I love you now and for all eternity!

Your loving husband,

Ross
