LENA TURNER ROOKS SQUIRES age 92 years of 3319 Russell Springs
Road, Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 1:18 PM at her home after several years illness.

Mrs. Squires was a member of the Free Union Separate Baptist Church, Lena Squires was a graduate of the Columbia High School in 1936, A graduate of Lindsey Wilson College, Campbellsville College and attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College in Bowling Green, KY She taught 30 years in Adair and Metcalfe County Schools, including 8 years teaching the Home Bound Children program. Mrs. Squires was a well know genealogist doing extensive research on the Turner and Grant Families throughtout the United States. In the 1980's she began writing poetry, her first poem The Old Home Place was published in 1989 in American Poetry Anthology – Volume Number 3 She was listed as on of the best new poets of 1989 Her best loved poem was entitled: "To A Rose" She was the daughter of the late: Edd Wint and Ada Grant Turner of Adair County She was born in the Inroad Community of Adair Co. on Nov. 4, 1915 She was preceded in death by Amos Edgar Rooks on April 21, 1972 in 1982 she married Paul Woodrow Squires who preceded her in death Preceded in death by brothers: Esba Turner, Calvin Turner, Ralph Turner, Dola Turner and Ormal Turner, Sisters: Mayme Bailey, Vena Turner and Mary Lee Keltner
Survivors include: One brother in law: Raymond Keltner of Columbia, KY One sister in law: Helen Turner of Columbia, KY
Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends Three special caregivers: Betty Stotts, Brenda Chaney and Jamie Matthews
Funeral service: Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home Clergy officiating: Rev. Jim Goff Interment in the Haven Hill Cemetery The family request visitation after 4:00 PM Friday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home
