Adolfo S. Montemayor
Alice - Adolfo S. Montemayor known as "Fito" to his family and friends, 82 years of age, entered into eternal rest at his residence surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) on Sunday, April 25, 2021. He was born in San Jose Community, Texas on September 27, 1938 to his parents, Alejandro and Julia S. Montemayor. He was a 1957 graduate of San Diego High School and a 1963 graduate of the University of Texas College of Pharmacy where he received his degree as a Registered Pharmacist. He began his career in 1963 in Alice working for Garcia Pharmacy alongside Alfredo Garcia Jr.. In 1966 through 1999, Fito worked alongside Dr. Dunlap as owner of La Hacienda Pharmacy in San Diego, Texas. In December of 1999, Fito along with his wife, Maria Antonia, moved to their location on Dr. Dunlap Street and worked their until retiring in June 2018 after 50 years of service. Fito was a lifetime rancher and bred and raised registered quarter horses. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas, and a Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree member. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro and Julia S. Montemayor; his two brothers, Amando and Alejandro Montemayor; his brother-in-law, Fernando De Pena Jr.
Fito is survived by his loving wife of 58 years of marriage, Maria Antonia Montemayor of Alice, Texas; his children, Adolfo (Donna) Montemayor Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Veronica Montemayor of Austin, Texas, Orlando (Daisy) Montemayor of Mission, Texas, Miguel (Yvonne) Montemayor of Austin, Texas; his sister, Lucinda (Antonio) Flores; aunt, Albesa Montemayor of San Diego, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Irma C. Montemayor and Thelma E. Montemayor; four grandchildren, Cathryn Montemayor, Christopher Montemayor, Madeline Montemayor and Olivia Montemayor; numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will be following all CDC and Government mandates and ask each guest to do so as well. We ask everyone to follow social distancing and wear masks inside the funeral home and church.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. Interment will follow at the Lopez Cemetery in San Jose Community, Texas.
