Julia S. Montemayor, 92, a resident of San Jose community, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2007 in Alice, Texas after a long illness. She was an active member of the San Jose Mission Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was dedicated to her family, and enjoyed cooking for them. Julia, otherwise known as "Welita", was a devoted catholic and mother. She was most happy when her family was around her. She expressed her love for her family through the gift of her delicious home cooked meals which included her famous tortillas, tamales, empanadas and pan de polvo. She also enjoyed quilting with her family and presenting the quilts as family heirlooms.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alejandro Montemayor, two sons, Alejandro Montemayor, Jr. and Amando S. Montemayor.

She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Adolfo S. (Maria Antonia) Montemayor from Alice, Texas, her daughter, Lucinda Montemayor (Antonio) Flores of Brownsville, Texas, two daughters in-law, Irma C. Montemayor of San Diego, Texas and Thelma E. Montemayor of Alice, Texas, her sister, Leonarda S. Vela of San Jose Community, Texas, and two sisters in-law, Albesa Montemayor and Odilia Saenz both of San Diego, Texas. Her twelve grandchildren, Adolfo (Donna) Montemayor, Jr. of San Antonio, Donnie (Thelma) Montemayor of Refugio, Veronica Montemayor of Austin, Adrian (Melissa) Montemayor, Orlando Montemayor, both of Laredo Selina (Reuben) Garcia of Alice, Miguel (Yvonne) Montemayor of Austin, Sara (Aaron) Garcia of McAllen, Antonio Alejandro (Ursula) Flores of Seguin, Denise (John) Hickman of Harlingen, Elaine (Alejandro) Gonzalez of Corpus Christi and Amando J. Flores of San Antonio, Texas. 17 Great Grandchildren.

Visitation was held September 23, 2007 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. A funeral mass was celebrated Sept. 24, 2007 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Burial followed at the Lopez Cemetery in San Jose Community, Texas.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.
