His parents' family Bible gives his name as Livingston Isbell, the third child and second son of James and Frances Tompkins Livingston (ref., Notable Southern Families by Zella Armstrong).
Some family trees show his name as Jason Livingston Isbell but may be confusing him with Jason Livingston Isbell (1754-1817), the son of Benjamin Isbell whose brother was Jason L. Isbell (c1730-), three different men.
Notable Southern Families states he was in the Battle of King's Mountain.
