Melvin Williams, Jr., 73, of Lubbock passed away Friday, May 7, 2004, after a year-long battle with brain cancer. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Bryan Williams officiating. Internment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

He was born on 4 June 1930, in Howland, Texas. He married LaVerne North on 27 Oct 1959. He retired from Southwestern Public Service in 1995.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Laverne Williams; his five children, Dennis Lee Williams, Gary Turner, Doyle Turner and Mel Williams, and Kim Wingerson; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five younger brothers; and one sister.

If desired, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Lubbock for their kindness and support in lieu of flowers.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of ten years in June 1957. He married Zona Bell Posey in Paris, Texas on 27 Aug 1947 and they had one child, Dennis Lee. She died 8 June 1957 in Lubbock.)

Junior Melvin Williams was one of five boys. As of 2018 They are all gone except the youngest, Larry Williams. Mar 12, 2018.
