Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Pittsburg, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shepherd Center or the Trinity Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund.
Bernice Grotheer was born on November 2, 1926 in Pittsburg, KS., the daughter of Carl and Mary (Mundt) Grotheer. She grew up in Pittsburg, KS., graduated from College High School in 1944. Bernice was a homemaker while her children were growing up. She later worked at the Atchison Day Care for 12 years before retiring in 1986. She was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church having taught Sunday School, attend Pastor's Adult Bible Class, a member of the Rebecca Circle, and L.W.M.L (Lutheran Women's Missionary League), Morning Break, and participated in many bible studies. She was active in the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary and on the Board of Directors. She attended the Shepherd Center regularly. She enjoyed playing bridge and her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was married to William J. Sellers on Oct. 2, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church, Pittsburg, KS. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son: James W. (Carolyn) Sellers, Goldsboro, NC., two daughters; Janice S. Sellers, Topeka, KS., Judith A. (David) Green, Charlotte, NC., three grandchildren; Will Green, Ellie Green, and Parker Sellers,, a brother, Morris Grotheer, Des Moines, IA., and a sister: Hilma Hoffman, Pittsburg, KS., Her parents, and four brothers; Art, Norman, Leslie and Orvil Grotheer, preceded her in death.
