Leroy Branch became known to locals when he was the first baby born in Burke County in 1933. The little boy was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Pinkney Branch of the Bridgewater community.

According to his obituary, the 18-month-old child became ill and died of "acidosis" after one week.

The newspaper also claims that he was buried in Snow Hill Church cemetery; if so, the grave was moved, for he now rests beside his parents at Forest Hill.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was survived by seven sisters and three brothers.
