The family moved to Land Lot 84 of the 3rd District of Walton County in 1819, which is located on the west edge of the Apalachee river, just south of the Gwinnett County line. This community shows up on the old maps as being near Woodruff and in later years, just north of the community of Bold Springs.

He is believed to be living on the property of his father Samuel Sentell in these years in Walton County. He married Nancy Carroll here in Walton on January 27. 1825.
He served in Walton County's 250th (Brantley's) Militia District from 10 June 1825 until 28 April 1828. He is first reported as a Lieutenant and then on 25 January 1826 he is shown to have been a Captain.
On the 1826 Tax Digest for Walton County, Georgia, Martin Thomas Sentell was listed as a Household Head in Captain Love's District. The 1831 Tax Digest for Walton County, Georgia lists Martin Thomas Sentell as a resident, and Household Head, of Captain Ellison's District. His tax assessment at this time also included Land Lot No. 303 in District 1 of Coweta County, Georgia. In Georgia's "Land Lottery of 1827", Martin Thomas Sentell drew two lots: Lot 303 in District 1 of Coweta County, Georgia and Lot 129 in District 20 of Lee (now Stewart) County, Georgia. Each lot was 202½ acres (2,970 feet square). A grant fee of $18.00 had to be paid for each lot taken up. Options on the lots drawn in Georgia's land lotteries could be sold or traded and did not have to be taken up by the person who had actually drawn the lot in the lottery. The
option on the Coweta County lot was taken up on 19 December 1831; the option on the Lee (Stewart) County lot was not exercised until 19 April 1834 (after the death of Martin Thomas Sentell). According to the 1830 US Census, Martin Thomas Sentell was a Household Head in Walton County, Georgia: the 674th person visited during that census in Walton County. At that time, his household consisted of one male under five years of age (John (3) Sentell); two females under five years of age (Betsy Ann Sentell and Mahaley Sentell); one female 15, but under 20 (wife, Nancy Carrol, b 1811) and one male 20, but under 30 (Martin Thomas Sentell, b 1803).
(Note: Only three children are listed on this census. Samuel Jackson Sentell was born 17 May 1830; he was probably born after the 1830 census visit was made.)
