WILSON -- Services for Raymond F. Ammons, 71, Waurika, formerly of Wilson, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Wilson First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Humphrey and the Rev. Jason Langley officiating. Interment will be at Hewitt Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.

Mr. Ammons was born June 21, 1929, at Cerro Gordo, N.C., to Furnie Franklin and Derotha Causee Ammons. He died April 26, 2001, in Ardmore.

Mr. Ammons grew up in North Carolina and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. While stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, he met Minnie Jewell McClung and they were married on Dec. 1, 1950, at Temple, Okla. He was honorably discharged in 1952. They lived most of their married life in the Wilson area where he was employed by Sutherland Well Service as a tool pusher, retiring after 35 years of service in 1994. That same year they moved to Waurika Lake. He was a member of Corum Baptist Church in Comanche, Okla.

Mr. Ammons loved his family, fishing, yardwork, woodworking and his church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Furnie Franklin Ammons, in September of 1975; his mother, Derotha Ammons on Jan. 19, 1995; a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Ammons on April 28, 1990; a sister, Dorothy Roberts in 1972; and a brother, Cornelius Ammons in 1951.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell, of 50 years; two daughters, Nancy and husband, Jimmy Quaid of Jefferson, Texas, and Dottie and husband, Ronnie Joe Stearns of Wilson; a son, Charlie Ammons of Lone Grove; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeff Stearns, Bradley Whatley and Frankie Lawson, Ronnie and Lisa Stearns, Katherine Stearns and Everett Mann, Cyndi and Tinker Blansett, Amber and Jerrod Vails, Tina and Brodie Rutherford, Justin and Kim Quaid, David Quaid, Kevin Quaid and Kerrie, Stephen Quaid, Julia Quaid, and Jamie Quaid and Betty Shaffer; great-grandchildren, Joey and Payton Stearns, Ryley Blansett, Zane Babb, Daniel Babb, Chay Mann, Garrett Rutherford, Brice Rutherford, Makenzie Quaid, Jessica Balfour, Cody Welch, Johnathon Hammond, Hai-Lee Jones, Jace Quaid and Jarod Rutherford.

Bearers will be Mark McClung, Joel McClung, Scott Sutherland, Benton Goodson and Jake Whatley.
