Esther Ruth Smith Heaton
1928 - 2022

Our beloved angel Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, Esther Ruth Smith Heaton returned home to her Heavenly Father peacefully on October 21, 2022, at Spring Gardens in Lindon, Utah, at age 94. She was welcomed on the other side by her sweetheart, LeRoy Cox Heaton, parents, siblings and others.

Mother enjoyed the simple things. Her passion showed through her love, kindness, generosity and selflessness. She was an amazing spiritual woman who endured many challenges through strength and perseverance. She was very dedicated to her family, friends and neighbors, showing love and support to lift all around her.

Esther Ruth Smith Heaton was born September 14, 1928, to Elias & Ernestine Hansen Smith. She was raised on a farm in Linden, Arizona, where she learned to work hard and play even harder when given a chance between chores and school. Her farm chores: fed chickens, gathered eggs, milked and fed cows, fed pigs and rode horses. The Smith Farm was called the "Swing High Ranch." Mother loved the beauty all around her. She graduated with honors from Snowflake Union High School in 1945, excelling in anything she did.

She went to Logan, Utah, to live with her sister, Laverne, working at a restaurant. She met Daddy at a football game, later to become the love of her life! At the ball game, Daddy's leg was in a cast and when game concluded, he needed assistance. Mother realized that Daddy required help negotiating the stairs. Love blossomed and this duet was married on August 8, 1946, in the Logan Utah Temple. After inspecting some beehives which were plugged full, they had to forego a honeymoon to extract honey…by the light of the moon…hence their "Honey Moon". After being married five months, Mother bid farewell to her sweetheart who served a mission to the Eastern States. As a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she loves the Lord with all her heart and desired to serve Him by her example.

Esther Ruth is the matriarch of six children, 37 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren….plus all the in-loves. Mother is survived by her six children: RuLea Brooksby Taggart, Linda Berrett, Lyle (Patti) Heaton, Dale (Marlene} Heaton, Gary (Sandy) Heaton and Shaun (Angie) Heaton.

Mother is our foundation and we are her most treasured blessings. Her favorite color was red and favorite hymn, "Have I Done Any Good in the World Today?" Mother was blessed to have made so many lifelong friends whom she loved and cherished.

Mother was preceded in death by her sweetheart and eternal companion, her parents and seven siblings, as well as sons-in-law, Victor Brooksby, Bryan Taggart and Sherrell Berrett; and four grandchildren: Doug Bench, Randy, Willie and Ryan Brooksby.

As a family, we express our heartfelt gratitude for all who were a part of Mother's loving care at Spring Gardens in Lindon, Utah, Yarrow Hospice Care, and Premier Funeral Services. We appreciate your great kindness!!

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 545 South 800 East, Orem, Utah, where a viewing will be Friday evening, October 28, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday prior to services from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
