HAS DOUBLE SORROW - Salem Woman has Two Relatives Buried Same Time: Double sorrow came to the B. L. Steeves family yesterday when simultaneous with the funeral services of Mrs. Steeves' brother, the late Colonel M. W. Hunt, of Berkeley, which were held at the First Methodist church, a brother-in-law, James L. Hunt, who died Monday at Roseberg, was also buried.
Mr. Hunt, who was a highly respected rancher, came from Oakland, California several months ago to Roseburg for medical treatment, dying at the hospital there. His first wife, sister to Mrs. Steeves, was well known in Salem as Georgia R. Hunt. Surviving J. T. Hunt are his immediate family, his widow Eliza Smith Hunt of Oakland, and the children: Lawrence Hunt of Lower Bridge, Jeptha Hunt, Mrs. Lloyd Tinkston and Mrs. George Chenoweth, Sarah, Dorothy and John Hunt, all of Oakland.

CAPT. HUNT IS DEAD - Former Salem Man Dies in California --Funeral Here Tomorrow
Passing away Thursday in Berkeley, Cal., the body of Capt. M. W. Hunt, a former Salem resident, will arrive in Salem Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the Southern Pacific, for funeral services and interment here.
The deceased was at one time connected with the Oregon National Guards and until two years ago made his home in Salem, where a host of friends will be saddened by his death. He is survived by his widow, three sons and a daughter, a sister, Mrs. B. L. Steeves of Salem, and a brother, J. T. Hunt, of Shaw, Or.
Dr. and Mrs. Steeves and J. T. Hunt left last week to be with their relative and will accompany the remains home.
Upon arrival tonight the body will lie at the chapel of Rigdon and Richardson until 1 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:3- p.m. from the First M.E. church, with interment in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.

Many People From Out of City and Fine Floral Offerings Mark the Deep Regret at His Passing - The funeral service of the late Captain M. W. Hunt, who died at Berkeley, Cal., aged 55 years, and whose body was brought to Salem, was held yesterday at the First M.E. church, Rev. R. N. Avison officiating. A large number of Portland relatives attended, among whom where Walter McMonies, a brother of the widow; Mr. And Mrs. Robert H. Ashby, and Mr. And Mrs. Richard Kirk. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, in charge of the Masons. At the services "Lead Kindly Light" was sung by a quartet composed of Mr. F. S. Mendenhall, Miss Lucille Kuntz, Vinton Ellis and R. R. Jones, with F. S. Mendenhall at the pipe organ. The pall bearers were: Judge George Burnett, E. Croisan, Frank Wrightman, Robert Downing, Lot Pearce, Henry Vandevort of Salem, and Sylvester Lambert of Stayton. Beautiful floral offerings were sent from Berkeley, Cal., where the deceased was a member of the Trinity Methodist church. Besides the many friends and relatives from Salem and Portland, others came from Hubbard, Stayton, Sublimity and surrounding valley towns. Captain Hunt was an early member of the Oregon militia, having been raised in the Waldo Hills, east of Salem. As a young surgeon he was stationed at the Presidio at San Francisco under Lieutenant L. Wood, now Major General Wood of the U.S. Army. Later he studied law and was appointed United States commissioner in Alaska. He spent the greater part of his life in Salem, practicing law successfully. Four years ago he retired from business spending a short time in Portland and later removing to Berkeley, Cal. He was a member of the Woodmen and Knights Templar. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Minnie McMonies Hunt; four children, George M. of Madison, Wisc.; Percy C., Homer and Gertrude of Berkeley, Cal.; a sister, Mrs. B. L. Steeves, wife of the ex-mayor of Salem, and a brother, J. T. Hunt of Sublimity; two grandchildren, Nancy Elizabeth Hunt of Salem, and Raymond Hunt of Madison, Wis.
