David Munson Osborne (1887-1962) graduated from Harvard in 1909 and began a career as a banker in Auburn and Boston. He enlisted in the 1st Maine Heavy Field Artillery on August 29, 1917, stationed at Camp Bartlett, and was promoted to regimental sergeant major on October 1. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps on January 29, 1918, and was then sent to their Supply Division in Washington D.C., where he was made Assistant Executive Officer. He was promoted to first lieutenant on April 15, 1918 and discharged on November 12, 1918. He returned to a banking career in New York City. He was married to Dorothy Dexter on October 30, 1909 and had two daughters: Olivia, born January 7, 1916 and Hope, born May 3, 1918. Dorothy died September 22, 1922 leaving David a young widower with two small daughters. In World War II he enlisted in the American Hospital Service in Paris. Soon thereafter he married New Zealander Mary Janet Clarkson (1909-1974). They retired to Barbados, where David died on July 9, 1962.

Burial details are included on the REPORT OF THE DEATH OF AN AMERICAN CITIZEN filed by the American Consulate at Barbados on July 12, 1962, available at Ancestry. The place of death was Horseshoe Manor, The Garrison, Barbados. Cause of death was listed at "coronary thrombosis, senility." Copies of the report were sent to his widow and to his brother Lithgow. The consulate canceled his passport and returned it to his wife.
