Aged Lady had been in Failing Health for Several Years
(By Bennettville Correspondent)
Mrs. S. S. Glidden died suddenly Sunday at Bennettville of old age and influenza. She had been in failing health for several years. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the home at Bennettville and interment was
made in the community cemetery. On her next birthday, Mrs. Glidden would have been 75 years of age. Last year on this occassion, scores of friends called to congratulate her
and wish her more happy returns, but these hopes have not been realized. Mrs. Glidden's nature was kindly and friendly, and she was beloved by all who knew her.
Her marriage to Mr. Glidden took place at Hutchinson, February 2, 1869. Mr. Glidden was a veteran of the Civil War. They came to Bennettville to make their home in the
winter of 1887. The husband died December 11, 1908.
Five children are left to mourn the loss of this good mother. They are an only daughter, Mrs. Lily Lemire, who has been caring for hermother during her long period of invalidism, and four sons, Ulysses S. Glidden of Bellingham, Wash., Eugene Glidden of Hoosport, Wash., Lyman and Harry Glidden, at home. One daughter died in infancy. A brother, He[r]man McNeely of Spokane, Wash., 17 grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
