Son of Antoinette G (Merritt) and John Stanley Erikson. He grew up in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in California. He worked at Crosby Yacht Yard for about 10 years, and Falmouth Marine for 40 years. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Nancy (Lacouture) Erikson; sister Janet Agius; nephew, Sean Agius; and niece, Beth Sullivan.
