Mrs. Doris Juanita Grant Jeffers, 83, died Monday (May 17, 2004) at Satilla Care Center after a courageous battle with Leukemia surrounded by family and friends.

She was a native of Ware County and had resided in Ware County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Clifford (Dick) Jeffers; her parents, Robert Leon Grant and Lottie Quarterman Grant; and a brother, Dug Grant.

She worked in the Charleston Shipyard during World War II and was a former employee of the Salvation Army. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and attended Liberty Christian Church. She was very active in the Salvation Army during her younger years. She taught Sunday School and was a young people sergeant major in the Salvation Army.

The survivors include a daughter, Sandra Hooks (husband Rodney) of Waycross; three sons, Rev. Richard Jeffers (wife Karen), Leon Keith Jeffers (wife Alice) all of Waycross, Jon Jeffers (wife Kathy) of Blackshear; two sisters, Carol Jean Dixon of Waycross, Glenda Rollins of Dothan, AL; seven grandchildren, Roddy Hooks, Joey Hooks, Marissa Hooks, Fran Bock (husband Frank), Richard Jeffers, Jr. (wife Danielle), Michael Jeffers (wife Shea), Stephanie Fraley; and four great grandchildren, Naudia Hooks, Caleb Walker, Taylor Dixon and Walt Jeffers.

A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday (May 19, 2004) at Liberty Christian Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home Tuesday night from 7 until 9 o'clock.
