He founded the Bob Foley Electrical and Lighting Experimental Laboratory at the University of Kansas for Architectural and Electrical Engineering students, and he served on the National Committee of the Robert J. Besal Memorial and Education Fund. He was active on the scholarship committee for architecture and engineering students at KU.
Bob was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #124; former President and member of the Electrical Manufacturers Representatives Association; former president and member of the Heart of America Illuminating Society; former president and member of the Electric Association of Missouri and Kansas; former president and member of the Kansas City, KS, Kiwanis Club; former president and member of the Missouri River Club; member of the Construction Specifications Institute; associate member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors; member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board; former vice-president and member of the Kansas City, KS, Chamber of Commerce and he served on its Adequate Flood Protection Control Committee.
He served on the Kansas City, KS, Mayor's Advisory Board to assist in the employment of the physically handicapped, the United Way and was former Chairman of the Wyandotte County Jr. Sheriff's Posse and served as a former Treasurer of the Delaware Township Board in Wyandotte County.
Mr. Foley was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Wyandotte Masonic Lodge #3, the Kansas York Rite Chapter #6, Ivanhoe Commandery #21 and the Abdallah Shrine, where he was a member of its mounted patrol unit.
His wife of 47 years, Josephine Agnes Martel Foley, survived him, as well as two sons, Bill and his wife, and John Jr. and his wife; three daughters, Linda Sue and her husband Neal, Barbara, and Susan Jo and her husband; his sister, Edith Whisler, of Oak Grove, MO, and nine grandchildren.
Friends called at the Porter Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
