Mrs. Daisy Van Gorder, 54, died at 1:00 am Sunday, January 7, 1951 at her home in Mansfield. She had been in failing health for sometime. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 pm at the Mansfield Methodist Church and burial was in the Mansfield cemetery.

She was born at Fullerton NE, May 6, 1896, d/o Benjamin and Mary Bateman. The family moved back to Illinois in 1900. Her parents, two brothers and a sister who died in infancy, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Van Gorder graduated from Bellflower High School in the class of 1915, later attending IL State Normal University. She taught 18 years in the elementary schools of this vicinity resigning from the faculty of the Mansfield grade school at Thanksgiving time because of poor health. She was librarian several years and also assessor of Blue Ridge township.

She was united in marriage to Paul Van Gorder (1897-1936) in 1929. He preceded her in death in 1936. A son, Paul Benjamin, died in infancy in 1930.

Mrs. Van Gorder, when a young girl joined the Bellflower Christian Church, later transferring to the Bethel Congregational Church and in later years transferred her membership to the Mansfield Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Mary Florence, who is in nurse's training at the Methodist Hospital in Peoria; and Nancy, a senior at Mansfield High School. She also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mae Farthing, Dallas, Clarence and Leslie, all of Mansfield; Mrs. Bertha Bidner, Bellflower; Mrs. Xantha Friedrich, Peoria; Mrs. Anna Neal, LuVerne, IA; and Martha and Georgia Bateman, missionaries on furlough from Belgian Congo, Africa. She also leaves to mourn her death a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
