Margaret Ruth Bumgardner
Ruth Brittain Bumgardner went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 2, 2022.
Ruth was born January 4, 1925, to C.A and Millie Hipps Brittain. She grew up in Caser, NC, where she met the love of her life, Lee Roy Bumgardner. After graduating Caser School, she then pursued a teaching degree at Appalachian State Teachers College graduating in 1946.
After college she embarked on a new chapter with Lee Roy on June 21,1950 as they began their life as husband and wife. They lived in the Spindale area where they started their family before relocating to Charlotte in 1966. As devout Christians, they were active members of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church where Ruth taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was instrumental in helping multiple generations develop an everlasting relationship with Jesus through her teachings during their first and second grade years. Her love of the children gave them a clear picture of the love of Jesus that was in her heart. Her ministries to the children showed her commitment, dedication and overall love and faithfulness for Jesus. Through Ruth, the children developed a true love of the words when singing "Jesus loves me."
Ruth was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an integral part of all her children's lives actively involved in scouts, athletic programs, and their education. She loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening and taking care of her two kitties, Casper and Shadow. Ruth was also a fabulous seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Lee Roy Bumgardner; her son, Dennis Owen Bumgardner and her daughter, Myra Bumgardner Walker.
She is survived by two sons, Harvey Bumgardner (Sandy) and Charles Bumgardner (Tonya); eight grandchildren, Gary and Liz Bumgardner, Matthew and Madison Walker, Christopher Bumgardner, Keslynn Pihl, Christopher (Alexis) and Carlin Spence; and her only great-grandson, Weston Spence. She is also survived by her sister, Marie Brittain Peters.
Ruth enriched the life of every person she encountered and was always supportive to anyone who needed her and will be deeply missed.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Eternal Hills Cemetery, 1565 Oakland Rd, Forest City, NC 28043.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM with the memorial service to follow.
