Mitchell E. Smith, 66, of Girard, died at 4:52 p.m. Friday (Sept. 12, 2008) at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
He was born on June 28, 1942, in Glasgow, Ky., a son of John B. Smith and Ruby T. Chapman Smith Foster. He married Mary Ann Pitchford on Dec. 11, 1959, in Girard. She survives.
Also surviving are six children, Diana (Brett) Brown, Girard; David (Lori) Smith, Girard; Daniel Smith, Girard; Randy (Colean) Smith, Girard; Dawn (Eric) Webb, Raymond; and Danielle (Nick) Enrietta, Girard; 14 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; three brothers and sisters, Aubrey Eldon (Pat) Smith, Taylorville; Sharon (Frank) Mendoza, Girard; and Leland (Annie May) Smith, Divernon; sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith, Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Haskell, Harold and Lewis Smith.
He was a member of Boston Chapel Christian Church, rural Girard.
Mitch managed several filling stations in Heyworth and Taylorville before moving to Girard to begin farming in 1973 to the present.
