Lieutenant Alfred Lascelles, T Battery, Royal Horse Artillery. He was the fourth son of Colonel Walter Lascelles and Ellen Lascelles of Norley Bank, Chester. He was educated at Marlborough College, Wiltshire (Sep 1887 to Dec 1890). Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Militery College, Woolwich (entered 20 March 1891). Commissioned into the Royal Artillery in Apr 1893. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 Apr 1896. Served with 77th Field Battery at Coventry (Jul 1897-Aug 1898). Joined 'T' Battery, Royal Horse Artillery at Aldershot. He deployed with his battery to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War in Dec 1889. They supported General French in the relief of Kimberley and the advance to Bloemfontein including the battle of Paardeberg (18-27 Feb 1900) and Dreifontien (10 Mar 1900). Lieutenant Lascelles died of enteric fever (typhoid) at Bloemfontein on 16 May 1900. He was buried on 17 May 1900. He is also commemorated on the Royal Artillery Boer War memorial on the corner of Horse Guards Parade and the Mall, at the north-east corner of St James Park, London, England (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/112037) and on the Marlborough College Boer War memorial in the Marlborough College Chapel, Bath Road, Marlborough, Wiltshire (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/200066/).
