Charles Dawes Berlin, age 79 of Alliance, died Wednesday morning, September 22, 2004 at Community Care Center. Mr. Berlin was born March 4, 1925 in Homeworth, Ohio to Earl E. and Bertha May (Powers) Berlin and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Alliance High School and attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

He worked as a Draftsman for Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee, Morgan Engineering in Alliance, and retired from Owen-Illinois in Toledo. After returning to Alliance, Mr. Berlin worked at Electric Furnace in Salem. He was a life member of both B.P.O.E. #467 of Alliance and V.F.W. Post 6730 in Sebring. He enjoyed gardening and especially making kraut for New Years to share with his friends. A U.S. Navy W.W.II Veteran, he served on a landing craft in Europe and Africa as an Electrician's Mate 3rd Class. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

Survivors include his wife Esther "Pat" (Calabria) Berlin, whom he married Nov. 17, 1945; two sons John (Christine) Berlin of Salem, and Jeffrey Berlin of Alliance; two grandsons John Paul and Peter Berlin; one brother Calvin (Carolyn) Berlin of Bloomington, Indiana and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Walter, Claude "Ted", and Harold; and two sisters Emma Mercer and Cleo Koerner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Feicht officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. A B.P.O.Elks Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
