Richard J. Matson Sr., 86, of Ligonier RD5 died Wednesday, November 8, 1995 at home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1909, in Ligonier Township, a son of the late Edward J. and Mary M. (Johnson) Matson.
He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ligonier. He farmed most of his life, retiring in 1978.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Graham and Margaret Matson, and four brothers, Ernest, Art, Carl and George.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Alice Graham Matson; a daughter, Linda Jane Matson Miller of Laughlintown; three sons, Richard J. Jr. of Ligonier RD1, retired Col. Eric K. of Monrovia, Md., and Ronald G of Ligonier; a brother, Roy of Latrobe; a sister, Edna Ambrose of Ligonier; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in McCabe Funeral Home, 244 W. Main St., Ligonier.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ligonier, with his pastor, the Rev. William M. Oesterlin, officiating. Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
