Adam, the son of Johann Adam and Maria (Lang) Knerr, was born in the village of Nunschweiler, Rhineland-Paletinate, Germany from which place he emigrated about 1886. He settled in Greensburg, Decatur Co., IN where he married Arminta "Minnie" Ketchum May 21, 1889.

The couple lived in Greensburg, Adam engaged in the business of shoe sales. A daughter, five sons, and an unknown infant were born to Adam and Minnie.

Unfortunately, a few years following the birth of his youngest child, Adam left the family and moved to Dayton, OH. Although Minnie sought a divorce at that time, it was not until 1915 that the decree was finalized.

Adam died three years later in Dayton and was returned to Decatur Co. for burial.
