Luther enjoyed his family, church, gardening, birds, collecting and scouting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Luther married Mary Jane (nee Watson) in 1953, having celebrated 69 years of marriage on August 30, 2022.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954, primarily on the USS Allagash as a 3rd Class Yeoman. Luther retired as an Inspector for Granite City Steel after 38 years of dedicated service.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents; Luther and Edna (nee Cook) Biggs Sr. and his siblings; Robert, Virginia, William, Thelma, Charles, Richard, Donald and Larry.
Luther is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Mary Jane Biggs; 4 children, Debbie and Butch Clemings of Troy, Illinois, Randy and Beth Biggs of Maryville, Illinois, Dave and Stephanie Biggs of Carlyle, Illinois, Tom and Michelle Biggs of Hamel, Illinois; 6 grandchildren, Todd Clemings of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Melissa and Luke Lahr of Edwardsville, Illinois, Jen Clemings of Benld, Illinois, Rachel and James Land of Edwardsville, Illinois, Brittany and Ryan Cunefare of Hamel, Illinois, Brandyn Biggs of St. Louis, Missouri; 9 great-grandchildren, Leander Blackwood, Darian Clemings, Lillyan Land, Koen Lahr, Gracie Lovett, Logan Land, Josie Lahr, Rory Lahr and Jackson Cunefare.
In celebration of Luther's life, a visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at 12:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. Burial will follow with full military rites at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorial donations are suggested to First United Presbyterian Church, 2160 Delmar Ave., Granite City, IL 62040.
