David Richard Truly Applegate, age 75, of Springfield, died Friday, September 16, 2022. He was born March 14, 1947 in Okemah, Oklahoma, the son of James Henry "Hobo" and Opal Alene (Jackson) Applegate. Truly was a graduate of Chadwick High School. He attended School of the Ozarks, receiving a masters degree. He continued to further his education in several colleges, including Drury and MSU. On February 21, 1969 he and Judy Eilene Thompson were married. Truly started his working career as a teacher and assistant principal for Ozark. He then worked for Springfield and Greene County in law enforcement. Truly retired after 40 years of service. A Christian, he was saved at a young age. He was a member of Sparta Masonic Lodge #298 AF & AM. Truly was a 32nd degree mason in the Scottish Rite, and member of York Rite in Springfield. Survivors include: His wife, Judy; two children and their spouses, Leana and Paul Shearer, and Graham and Ashley Applegate; grandchildren, Landry Applegate, Dustin Shearer, Eli Applegate, Brody Applegate, Garrett and Gavyn Daily; a great-grandchild, Ozzy Wayne Snider; his sister, Nona Atkinson; Truly was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frosty Applegate; and infant brother, Phillip Paige Applegate.
