Dr. Gerald H. Weidenhamer, age 87 of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Glenn Park of Defiance.

He was born on November 7, 1934 to the late Walter and Josephine (Hiler) Weidenhamer in Defiance, Ohio. Gerald proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1958 he married Betty J. (Coppes) Weidenhamer, who preceded him in death in 2015.

Gerald graduated from Tri-State College, Arizona State University, and University of Cincinnati. He earned his Engineering and Doctorate Degrees and worked for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In his leisure time he loved to play golf.

Gerald is survived by his son, Joseph (Michelle) Weidenhamer of Lake Bluff, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters; Margaret Stern, Virginia Burger, Laura Mae Burken, and Elizabeth "Betty" Stever, and four brothers; Bernard, Donald, William, and Charles Weidenhamer.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Military Honors will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held after the service at VFW # 3360 in Defiance.
