Guy Roger Billings was born at Pine Bluff, Arkansas on February 11, 1947 to the late Reuel Billings and Mary Etta Antee Billings "Doc as he was affectionately known by family and friends, passed away peacefully at his home in Monroe, Louisiana on September 7, 2022. "Doc" was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and retired owner of Bastrop Chiropractic Clinic.
"Doc" is survived by his loyal and faithful wife of 31 years, Patsy Strong Billings; and his three children, Michelle Billings Goyne and husband, Daron, Heather Billings Barnhill and husband, Steve, and Darrin Billings and wife, Claire. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Caleb McDonald and wife, Chelsea, Holly Hart, Ty Barnhill, Rachel Barnhill, Ava Barnhill, Victoria Cannon and husband, Justin, and Hannah Billings; five great-grandchildren, Rylen Turnbow, Aubrey Brantley, Elijah Hart, Brooks Cannon, and Bennett Cannon; and a host of extended family and friends.
Doc had a love and infectious energy for his family, patients, and friends. He was a legend in his time. Doc was a compassionate caregiver to his mother, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and numerous friends. If he had a patient that he was unable to help, he would not hesitate to refer them to their medical doctor for additional care that they might need.
Doc was a Patriot and possessed a great love for his country. He was so proud of standing for the American flag. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and also served his community as an Auxiliary Policeman, completing the Police Academy, started a Neighborhood Watch, and was a Constable. He also ran for public office including the Police Jury and Mayor. Doc was a member and held numerous offices with the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Louisiana Attorney General's Office, and Morehouse Parish Elections Committee.
He loved to entertain his family, friends, and neighbors with cookouts at his home. Doc celebrated fireworks on July 4th, Halloween parties, hayrides for the children, and Christmas and New Year parties. He was always the ultimate and attentive host. A gifted story-teller, Doc had an affinity, love, and charisma for the stage. He acted in numerous plays at the Rose Theatre. His most memorable performances were MacBeth Did It, The Foreigner, and Murder Me Always. He has passed this love of theatre to some of his grandchildren as they have also performed on stage.
Doc also loved birdwatching and gardening his flowers. He especially enjoyed cutting the flowers to make a bouquet for Patsy. Most importantly, Doc held a deep and abiding Christian faith and was a member of the Church of Christ. He read his Bible daily, which he kept next to his chair, and possessed great knowledge of the scriptures. He enjoyed listening to Elvis sing gospel music and when unable to attend church in person he would listen to church services on the television.
A memorial visitation and gathering for family and friends to honor Guy Roger "Doc" Billings will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Committal services with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14th, at the Northeast Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery in Rayville, Louisiana. Services will be under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
Honoring Doc's wishes, the family suggest planned memorials be made to the Morehouse Cancer Fund, P.O Box 1060, Bastrop, Louisiana 71220.
