Joe Hundley, age 93, a resident of Lewisburg, formerly of Columbia, died Tuesday morning December 29, 2020 at Marshall County Medical Center.

The family will celebrate his life with a private family funeral service at Heritage Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Polk Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee is assisting the family with arrangements.

JoAllen Hundley was born on August 6, 1927 in Eunice, LA (Prudhomme Community, Acadia Parish) to Joseph Thomas Hundley and Dottie White Hundley. He graduated in 1949 from Southwestern Louisiana Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Vanderbilt University in 1950 with a Master of Arts.

JoAllen was licensed as a CPA in Louisiana in 1951 and in Tennessee in 1952. He began his CPA practice in 1956 in Columbia with Lester Bone as Bone & Hundley. In 1981 Bone, Hundley, Sanderson & Associates merged with what is now Kraft CPAs. He retired in 1989.

Joe married Jacqueline Elizabeth (Jackie) Ramsey of Manchester on September 28, 1952. After 38 wonderful years Jackie passed on July 31, 1991. Joe later married Pollye Taylor of Lewisburg on December 19, 1992. Pollye & Joe enjoyed 21 years of marriage before she passed on February 6, 2013.

Joe was an active member at Columbia First United Methodist Church and Cornersville United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School and was on multiple committees. Joe loved reading his Bible, studying scripture and sharing the word of our Lord.

For many years Joe enjoyed refinishing furniture, especially antiques. He taught his son, Terry, and daughters, Patti & Peggy this craft and they shared many hours with their daddy and his hobby.

Joe enjoyed following the stock market and politics. He appreciated a good discussion. Joe received the Long Rifle Award from Boy Scouts of America and was a Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow. In 2017, the Lewisburg Rotary honored Joe as a 60-year Rotarian. The Rotary motto – Service Above Self – was a focus of Joe's work and personal life. The Rotary Four Way Test became a beacon for him and his wife as they guided their children to maturity. One's actions prove honorable if you can answer affirmatively to all four of the Four Way Test questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? Joe said this standard served him well over many years and he strived to make decisions based on these tenets.

He is survived by children & stepchildren: Terry (Amarie) Hundley of Franklin, Peggy Hundley (Andy) Yarbrough of Waynesboro, Bill Taylor of Murfreesboro, Laura Taylor (Bill) Cox of Nashville, Julie Taylor (Frank) Sullivan of Lewisburg, and son-in-law Claye Frank; grandchildren: Angie Hundley (Paul) Ward of Murfreesboro, Katie Hundley (Drew) Gannon of Murfreesboro, Andrew (Ashley) Yarbrough of Nashville, Elizabeth Yarbrough of Brentwood, Austin Yarbrough of Florence, AL, Maggie Frank (Matt) Forman of New Bern, NC, Meredith Frank (Michael) Gander of Winterville, NC, Brittany Cox of Nashville, Nathaneal (Esther) Cox of Pearl City, HI, Aaron (Emily) Cox of Murfreesboro, Alana Cox (Booski) Ferguson of Dalzell, SC, Cheyenne Plott of Arlington, VA, Laramie Plott of Lewisburg; great grandchildren: Leighton Ward, Aaron Gannon, Rylee Gannon, Whitley Forman, Charlie Forman, Mason Gander, Abigail Cox, Sydney Cox, Peter Cox, Ezekiel Ferguson; and several nieces and nephews in Louisiana.
