Billie Ellison Speer was born on January 18, 1932 in Boone Prairie, Robertson County, Texas, to Henry and Annie (Bell) Ellison. Billie passed away at home on September 3, 2022, surrounded by family.
On August 30, 1953, she married the love of her life, Benton Speer. The couple shared almost fifty-seven years of marriage before Benton's death in 2010. To this union were born three daughters, Belinda Gayle, Beth Marie (died shortly after birth), and Becki Renee'. After living in Rockdale for nineteen years, the Speers moved to Leon County where they built their "Red Barn" in the Clear Creek Community and created wonderful memories for family and friends, alike.
Billie never met a stranger and always greeted people with her bright, warm smile. She was the ultimate hostess and had a unique talent for making people feel welcomed. Although she was widely known for her many years of working at various cattle auctions (primarily Buffalo Livestock), she took great pride in being a homemaker and the matriarch of her family.
Billie was a wonderful example of what a Christian wife/mother/servant of the Lord should be. She was a life-long member of the church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughters, Belinda (Rick) Morris and Becki (Roger) Willis and brother Hugo (Pansy) Ellison, all of Clear Creek; five grandchildren, Britany (David) Wingfield, Ben (Michelle) Morris, Winter (Jerry) Adams, Cody Morris, and Laramie (Casey) Willis; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Korbin Adams, Kennedi Adams, Kambri Adams, Dawson Wingfield, Carson Wingfield, Jaxon Morris, Dixie Morris, Braxton Morris, Texas Morris, Benton Morris, Avett Morris, Charli Morris, Weston Willis, and Colt Willis and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers include her nephews, Shane Ellison, Todd Ellison, Brett Rodgers, Bradley Ellison, Bruce Ellison, and Mike Speer. Honorary pallbearers are Ben Morris, Cody Morris, Laramie Willis, Jerry Adams, David Wingfield, Hugo Ellison, Tim Speer, Russell Ellison, and her great-grandchildren, Korbin, Dawson, Jaxon, Kennedi, Carson, Dixie, Kambri, Braxton, Benton, Avett, Texas, Weston, Charli, and Colt.
Visitation will take place Monday, September 5, 2022 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home, with interment at Clear Creek Cemetery. Gene Darby and David Wingfield will officiate the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
