Mildred Washington Willis (c1755-78) married in 1772, Landon Carter (1751-1811), of "Cleve," King George County, Va. Four daughters were Mary Champe (1773-74); Mildred Ann Byrd (1774-1837) who married (1) in 1792, Robert R. Mercer (1764-1800), and (2) in 1809, her cousin John Lewis (1747-1825); Lucy Landon (1776-1855) who married in 1793, Gen. John Minor III (1761-1816); and Sarah Carter (1777-1805)(unm.).


Mildred Washington Willis' father was Lt. Colonel Lewis Willis (1734-1813) who served in the Revolutionary War, 10th Va. Regiment, 1776-78. He lived on "Willis Hill," later known as Marye's Height which became the focal point of the Civil War battle at Fredericksburg, Va. in 1862. He married (1) c1754, Mary Champe (c1737-ante1775). Their six children were Mildred Washington (c1755-78); Maj. John Whitaker (c1756-1802) who married in 1782, Ann Beale (c1763-99) and served in the Virginia House of Delegates in 1785; 2Lt. Henry (c1758-94) who married (1) c1789, Nancy Savage (-1791), and (2) c1792, Sarah S. Williams (1777-1825); Jane (c1761-80/1) who married c1779, Philip Thornton Alexander (1760-83); Mary Champe (c1765-92) who married c1784, Hay Battaile (1760-c1820) who was a justice and member of the Virginia House of Delegates, 1815-20; and William Champe Willis (c1770-1843) who married c1794, Lucy Taliaferro (1770-1812). Colonel Willis married (2) c1775, Anne Carter (c1743-1804). Their children were Charles Lewis (c1779-c82); Col. Byrd Charles (1781-1846) who served in the War of 1812 and married in 1800, a cousin, Mary Willis Lewis (1782-1834), daughter of George Lewis (1757-1821); and a (child) Willis (c1783). He married (3) in 1811, Elizabeth E. Stevenson (1759/60-1816).
