Her widower John, who was born in Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina but grew up in Due West, Abbeville County, South Carolina, went on to marry, in 1917, Rosa May Hampton Caldwell with whom he had twin daughters, Frances Livingston Caldwell Hamilton and May Hampton Caldwell Wright, both born in 1917. They were named after their mother May, who was John's second wife, and after John's deceased first wife, Frances. During this time John ran his own farm machinery company in Scotland County, North Carolina. After his second wife's death (and burial at Hillside Cemetery In Scotland County), he married, in 1922, Florine Erwin Carothers Caldwell, with whom he had three children, John Livingston Caldwell, Jr. (born 1924) who died as an infant, Dallas Carothers Caldwell (born 1925), and Jean Livingston Caldwell Cheek (born 1931). John, Sr. ultimately became the city manager of Chapel Hill, Orange County, North Carolina. He and his third wife are buried in the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery in Orange County on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
Frances' ancestry was Irish and German. I hope one of her relatives will add her photo to this site.
