"Walter L. Clem, former publisher of newspapers in Laverne, Taloga and Eagle City, died July 15 at his home in Laverne. He was 73.

Born in 1878 in Chillicothe, Mo., he moved to Taloga at the age of 20. He owned and operated the Taloga Advocate for several years. He went to Laverne in 1912 to operate the Laverne Leader, which he purchased from C. E. Herschberger and W. G. Darbro. He operated the paper until 1916, when he left the newspaper business. He had been a farmer near Laverne until about a year ago, when he again moved to Laverne.

Funeral services were held July 17 in Laverne.

The widow, Mrs. Hallie Clem, one sister, Mrs. Edith Pugh of Muskogee, and two brothers, Willie Clem of Duncan, Ariz., and Arthur Clem of Leedey, survive." Sooner State Press (Norman, Oklahoma), August 4, 1951
